Makin' an Interstellar-style Black Hole using CC Particle World

This is a sequel to my earlier tutorial, where I showed how to use Expressions, Mathematics and Bulge to create a Black Hole similar to Gargantua depicted in Christopher Nolan’s movie: Interstellar.

This tutorial focusses on using the included CC Particle World to generate an accretion disc, then uses Bulge to warp the disc. The leading edge is added back in by using a 3D Luma Matte and finally Glow gets the hyper brightness of the inner disc.

Video Copilot’s Saber comes in use to create the event horizon:

Expressions used:
Linking Bulge Centre to Black Hole Null:
thisComp.layer("Black Hole NULL").toComp([0,0,0]);

Linking CC Particle World to a 3D Null
Position X:
x=thisComp.layer("Null 1").transform.position[0]-thisComp.width/2; x/thisComp.width;

Position Y:
y=thisComp.layer("Null 1").transform.position[1]-thisComp.height/2; y/thisComp.width;

Position Z:
z=thisComp.layer("Null 1").transform.position[2]; z/thisComp.width;

Makin' a Nebula by removing stars in Photoshop, then animating in After Effects

In this tutorial, the first of four of creating nebulas in Adobe After Effects, I start by getting an image of the Horsehead nebula from Nasa's image galleries. I run it through Photoshop to remove the stars and background, using the Select Color Range, spot removal and the background removal tool. Once cleaned, I drop it into After Effects and use CC Particle World to add dust, gases and 3D stars.

Here you'll find a bunch of tutorials for using After Effects (mainly). I have a YouTube channel, called ShiveringCactus (long story - not funny anymore) where I post the videos.
