Co-Host of the Harold & Maudecast Jake Essoe
sits down with Paul Hawxhurst, Professional Market Specialist at Canon USA, to talk about Canon's new announcements at NAB 2016 including the new COMPACT-SERVO 18-80mm T4.4 EF-mount lens.
"Canon recognized the need in the marketplace and answered with a hybrid between our cinema lenses and still camera EF lenses."
They also chat about Canon's collaboration with NASA on the new IMAX Film, A BEAUTIFUL PLANET.
"The film is the brainchild of IMAX's main DP, James Neihouse, who has been shooting IMAX since the beginning. He wanted to try out new camera systems and discovered the Canon C500 shooting raw, blew up to the IMAX screen perfectly. And because the form factor is 10x smaller than an IMAX camera, it was the perfect camera to send to the astronauts in space."
A BEAUTIFUL PLANET is narrated by Jennifer Lawrence, and features footage filmed from space by the crew of the ISS. The film was shot entirely on Canon EOS C500 and the Canon EOS 1D-C. It makes its theatrical debut on April 29, 2016 in select cities.
Also featured at NAB for Canon was the 8K ride experience which lived up to the hype. 8K video was projected onto large screens surrounding viewers. The images were shot with Canon's Prototype 8K Camera system, projected in 8k using 4 of Canon's 8K projectors then printed using Canon's imagePROGRAF printer.
