Final Cut 6 False "Shift Fields" error

COW Blogs : walter biscardi's Blog : Final Cut 6 False "Shift Fields" error

When opening high definition projects created and finished in Final Cut Pro 5.1.4, FCP 6 is giving me what I consider a false "Shift Fields" error.

Now the problem with this error is that I know for a fact that the Shift Fields filters was not applied anywhere in any of the HD projects I'm opening. So I have been answering "No" to this message each time and have had no issues with playback of anything in the timeline.

We are not getting this warning when opening a standard definition project.

I have seen some posts in the forums about people getting flickering video playback after converting a project from FCP 5.1.4 to FCP 6 and I wonder if this error message is the culprit? Just wanted to pass that along that I think this is a completely erroneous error and at least in my experience so far, Just Say No!

working in SD Uncompressed 10bit PAL, i have been getting the same message. I made the mistake first time out of saying Yes, and it screwed up the entire project by flipping fields on everything. Now i know its erroneous so always say no.

I have a colleague over in Italy who has also had the exact same problem.

Just remember kids - just say NO !!

Yeah, that's always best to re-render a project before going to tape or disc (as in my case).

But, my issue seems to be that FCP6 is losing render files when I open my projects that I have been working on.  I've trashed my prefs but it still seems to pick one or a few render files to just trash every time.  If I'm working on a project and I have close it out and come back to it later - render files will be missing.

You'll begin to notice the second big bug very soon... Upgraded projects also will end up with corrupted render files some where in your edit process.  One moment they will be fine, the other moment, the video looks bad.  The only solution  to this issue is to use Render Manager to delete all your render files and re-render. After that, everything is fine.

Actually, all of our Renders go offline when we upgrade a project so we have to re-render all our work anyway.

Bug #1

I, too, have seen this, Walter.  And as you have done, I always answer no to that pesky question.
