Still Image export of DVCPro HD broken in FCP 6.0.2

COW Blogs : walter biscardi's Blog : Still Image export of DVCPro HD broken in FCP 6.0.2

I have just noticed that exporting a still image from a DVCPro HD 720/60 timeline in FCP 6.0.2 yield a choppy, pixelated mess. Definitely wasn't the case with FCP 6.0 and I don't think it was a problem in 6.0.1 either.

I also noticed that the images are not being exported in the true DVCPro HD aspect ratio either. Generally when you export an image, it will show up in another application at the same 960x720 frame size as the original, but upon opening the image in Photoshop or Preview, the image is now 1280x720. I would expect this if I was using ProRes, but I'm not, we're just using DVCPro HD as the codec all around.

Just an FYI for folks. I've sent off a feedback form to Apple

For reporting issues
by walter biscardi

Are the blogs now tech support too?  I am so confused.

No, I'm just reporting stuff I see in my daily work or feel the need to report on.  Don't feel the need to put this in the FCP forum right now until I investigate further.

So if you export a small movie
by Jeremy Garchow

So if you export a small movie, then export a still from QT, it still doesn't work?

Thanks for the link, but no

Exports do work perfectly from 1080i, I just tested it again.  It's the way FCP is exporting 720p DVCPro HD.  What should be a 960x720 export (like in the past) is now a 1280x720 export fully pixellated, kind of like what Final Touch HD used to do to DVCPro HD rendered clips.

This might help you.

no filters
by walter biscardi

No filters and now I'm thinking it's yet another Quicktime issue.  DVCPro HD clips from After Effects do not work correctly in Color, see my other entry.

Walter Biscardi, Jr.

Do you have any filters on that clip?

I think it is 720
by walter biscardi

Yeah, we did some 1080i recently now that I think about it.  720p has been a real thorn for FCP for quite some time.  I guess it's another broken issue.

Oh my...
by Wayne Carey

Must be an issue with 720p media.  I just exported a still image yesterday (DVCProHD 1080i29.97) just fine, and it opened correctly in Photoshop CS3.

Thanks for the heads up on 720p.
